Trail Maintenance

Your POA Trail Committee, in partnership with Leatherwood Mountains Resort LLC, have continued working on our trails.  We continue to keep downed trees and debris cleared from the trails.  We have also added 50+ new and additional signs to help in navigation.  This is never ending work, but we have a growing team of “trail angels” that do a tremendous job!   We will be hosting a trail work day on September 16, starting at 9 am and running until….   Lunch will be provided, we will need everyone to RSVP so we can plan accordingly.    Contact us by sending an email to trails@leatherwoodmountains.com.     Here is a flyer with the information and details: TRAIL WORK DAY FLYER

Other ways you can help:

If you notice any issues with any of the trails in the Leatherwood system of trails, please let us know by emailing us at trails@leatherwoodmountains.com or by posting on the “LW Trail Riders & Hikers” Facebook group. Please note as much information about the location of the need and any details you feel might be needed.

Adopt a Trail

An individual or a family may select a favorite trail or a section of trail to hike, do minor “touch ups,” and report downed trees or other necessary repairs. It is acceptable to join another individual or family on a trail that is already adopted. (This is not a substitute for the maintenance of our trails—but a method to enhance the enjoyment of all who use our trails.)

Trails Adopted:

  • Deer Run / Lower Robinson– Pete Minarich
  • Apple Tree to Black Rock, South Meadow – Barry & Bonnie Douthitt
  • Eagle Eye – The Boucher’s
  • Spirit – Phil Rash
  • Hunkabo / Flatrock – Amy Shamansky
  • Bob’s Branch – Shay Walters
  • Slickrock / Homestead – Brenda Huth
  • Silverado & Elk Ridge – Rosette Jefferson
  • Granny – Bill Aumand
  • Hunter Road connector to Decision, Trail Blazer, Trail Blazer, Rhodo Gap, Meadow Trail – Malak Wahba
Guidelines:

As a trail steward you would inspect your adopted trail for litter, fallen branches, downed trees and water damage. If able, remove litter and trim back encroaching or overhanging vegetation. If reasonable effort cannot correct the situation, please report it.

Items you may want to take with you:

  • Trail map
  • Branch trimmer
  • First aid kit
  • Work gloves
  • Trash bag
  • Small notebook with pen for making notes to report (location and needed repair, if necessary).

Please email trails@leatherwoodmountains.com to report concerns, unsafe conditions or trees blocking the trail.

Suggested Tasks:

  • Pick up litter
  • “Throw” branches off the trail
  • “Throw” loose rocks off the trail
  • Report any hazards
  • Enjoy “your trail” and the other fine trails and all that they offer

Please volunteer your help to your POA keeping Leatherwood Mountains the SPECIAL place that it is. Contact trails@leatherwoodmountains.com Thank you!
